Mission

To provide high quality, safe, professional, and progressive dance education to all members of our DALA family, ages 18 months to adult, of the Los Alamos, White Rock, and Northern New Mexico communities through our 4 programs: Community, Ballet, Young Children’s, and Mixed Repertoire and yearly productions highlighting our students’ achievements.

Description: Dance Arts Los Alamos is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been operating in Los Alamos County for over thirty years. DALA is dedicated to promoting dance in Los Alamos, White Rock and Northern New Mexico by providing safe, professional, progressive instruction and high-quality performances. DALA offers classes for ages 18 months through Adult with over 75 hours of instruction per week in Creative Movement, Dance Exploration, Pre-Ballet, Classical Ballet & Pointe, Variations & Pas de Deux, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Flamenco, Scottish Highland, Hip Hop, Tumbling, and more. DALA is proud to offer community programs including Adaptive Dance, a program which provides dancers with disabilities dance classes to practice dance technique, rhythm, and movement discovery in a safe, paced, and professional environment. DALA presents multiple productions per year, including the beloved community Nutcracker on “The Hill” trilogy at WinterFest, a full-length ballet in the spring, the annual Spring Dance Concert and Spring Young Children’s Showcase, plus additional performances throughout New Mexico. Selected advanced dancers are asked to participate in the Contemporary Repertory Cohort and/or compete annually at student competitions including Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) or ADC/International Ballet Competition. At YAGP 2024, DALA was awarded a Top 12 Score for Large Ensemble and in 2025, placed in the Top 6 for Large Ensemble and advanced to the international finals. All DALA instructors come from an incredible background of professional dance and/or dance in higher education. DALA has locations in White Rock and Los Alamos, reaching over 350 students.

Our Studio: Dance Arts Los Alamos is primarily a studio for ages 18-months through 18 years, with family-oriented studio culture and performance opportunities for growing dancers. We offer additional community programming specifically tailored to Adults, Boys, Homeschool students, and Adaptive dancers. We primarily focus on concert dance styles rather than commercial or competitive styles. Our Young Children’s classes balance play with technique and build into our Classical Ballet and Mixed Repertoire Programs with an audition-only Winter Performance and in-class preparation for the Young Children’s Spring Showcase. We strive to prepare our Classical Ballet students for the professional ballet world through pre-professional training programs and opportunities including our Winter Performance, invitation-only ADC-IBC or YAGP opportunity, and full length Spring Ballet. We strive to prepare our Mixed Repertoire students for the collegiate B.F.A dance world, through rigorous training and opportunities including our Winter Performance, optional Contemporary Repertory Cohort opportunity, and Spring Dance Concert.
